Intermediate - Senior Office Survey Technician

Costich Engineering is seeking an experienced Office Survey Technician to take on a substantive role in our surveying operations. We're a locally rooted, multidisciplinary firm that values precision, strong collaboration, and a supportive work environment. This role is well-suited for a skilled survey professional who works independently, produces accurate final deliverables, and enjoys helping junior staff develop their technical foundation.

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule: 8 Hour Shift (Day shift – Monday to Friday) with overtime

Experience: 5+ Years

Education: Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, or related field — or equivalent experience)

Location: Rochester, NY 14608 (Required)

Salary Range: $75,000 – $105,000 (Commensurate with experience)

Key Responsibilities

Drafting & Drawing Production

  • Prepare and review survey drawings, plats, exhibits, and mapping using AutoCAD and Civil 3D
  • Perform boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, construction, and as-built survey drafting
  • Develop final deliverables suitable for municipal, legal, and client use
  • Maintain and help enforce company CAD and surveying standards

Data Processing & Analysis

  • Process, analyze, and adjust field survey data with minimal supervision
  • Perform survey calculations and apply sound boundary analysis principles
  • Verify data completeness and accuracy before finalizing deliverables

Research & Boundary Work

  • Conduct deed, easement, right-of-way, and subdivision research
  • Identify and resolve boundary conflicts using available records and sound judgment
  • Interpret legal descriptions, survey records, and field notes independently

Coordination & Mentorship

  • Coordinate closely with field crews, project managers, and licensed surveyors
  • Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior survey technicians
  • Assist in workload planning and schedule coordination as needed

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years of progressive office survey technician experience
  • Strong proficiency in AutoCAD; Civil 3D experience required
  • Advanced understanding of boundary law, survey methods, and surveying best practices
  • Ability to independently interpret field data, deeds, legal descriptions, and survey records

Preferred

  • Experience preparing ALTA/NSPS land title surveys
  • Familiarity with New York State surveying standards
  • LSIT certification or active progress toward licensure
  • Experience mentoring junior survey staff
