LAND SURVEYOR / survey office technician

SURVEY DEPARTMENT

Costich is looking to grow our Survey Department by adding two (2) persons to the department, one would aid in field work and the other would assist indoors with processing, base mapping, boundary review, etc. Our firm recently obtained NYS WBE certification, and we are looking forward to growing this department.

Our surveyors utilize Leica TS06 fully robotic LEICA Geosystem instruments are used in conjunction with Surveyor 2 data collector running on the latest Carlson SurvCE software. In addition, each crew has GPS capability using Carlson BRx6 Base and Rover Systems.

Costich also utilizes and is continuing to pursue drone/UAV for surveying work.

Job Type: Full-time

Schedule: 8 Hour Shift (Day shift – Monday to Friday) with a willingness to work overtime, complete out of town work (overnights) as needed

Experience: Minimum three (3) years experience as a Survey Crew Member/Chief with the ability to become a licensed Surveyor In Training (SIT) within a couple of years, with the goal of obtaining licensure as an New York Professional Land Surveyor (PLS)

Education: Associates Degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, or related field experience preferred

FIELD DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Perform topographic and boundary surveys, construction stakeout, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, utility and right-of-way surveys and as-built survey for a wide variety of project types
    • Accurately measures and neatly records data and sketches of work performed
    • One and two person crews, as needed
    • Routine calibration and maintenance of survey equipment
    • Accurately complete timesheets encompassing work completed daily

 

OUTSIDE SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:

Minimum three (3) years’ experience as a Survey Crew Member/Chief with the ability to become a licensed Surveyor In Training (SIT) within a couple of years, with the goal of obtaining licensure as an New York Professional Land Surveyor (PLS)

    • FAA licensed drone pilot (preferred, not required)
    • Physically able to perform all tasks including lifting all equipment 
    • Maintain a current driver’s license in good standing and able to operate company owned vehicles
    • Willingness to work overtime, complete out of town work (overnights) as needed
    • Ability to work in all weather conditions
    • Willingness to grow and learn independently as well as alongside the survey team
  • OFFICE DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • 3-10 years of experience in land surveying
    • Associates Degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering or related field experience preferred
    • NYS Professional Land Surveyor license not required, but preferred candidate will have the desire to work toward licensure.
    • Knowledge of and experience with Carlson Survey, Carlson SurvCE and any other compatible land surveying software produces.
    • Ability to perform legal research at town, county and state levels and request 811 Design Tickets
